How old do you need to be?

This class is for kids 6-12 years old.

How much do the classes cost?

$180 per session (4 classes, each is 1.5 hours long). There is 5-8 kids in the class.

1st session – Welcome to Egypt: September 7, 14, 21, 28

We will start our Egyptian adventure by making a map of Ancient Egypt and learning about the importance of the river Nile. Then we will discover pharaohs, including Hatshepsut, build pyramids together, and learn about Egyptian gods. We will draw our pharaoh-inspired self portrait, paint pyramids and sculpt a protective talisman.

2nd session – The Magnificent Mummies: October 5, 12, 19, 26 (priority registration for current students)

This session is all about the afterlife and mummies. We will mummify a whole chicken together and everyone will mummify their own smaller mummy, design a sarcophagus and make a canopic jar. We will also focus on king Tut and his tomb-creating a golden mask based on our own face.

3rd session – Life in Ancient Egypt: November 2, 9, 16, 30 (priority registration for current students)

In the last session we will learn more about the life of ordinary Egyptians. We will learn what they wore, what they ate and what they did in their free time. We will make an Egyptian board game, learn about hieroglyphs and papyrus while making a cartouche, and discover the animals in ancient Egypt (from the cats to the crocodiles).

How do lessons look?

We will have an opening activity (simple craft relating to our lesson) and a more involved art project. We will read and talk about Egypt at snack time and write in our ‘main lesson book’ together (based on the skill-level of the kids, it will vary from copywriting to simple stories or poems).

Kids will also bring activities home and I’ll send a link with videos and online games (not necessary but fun).

I will also recommend books that would go well with the lessons, if kids wanted to learn more.
